A strategic UI/UX redesign led to a 2x increase in donations within a year

NZF is a nationally registered charity that has assisted over 20,000 Australians by processing and putting to good use over $20M in donations since 2013. The vast majority of these donations were received via direct bank transfers and not through the website that existed prior. PROBLEM: NZF's previous website was a slow and clunky WordPress site that struggled with performance issues, resulting in many abandoned donor checkouts. My role in this project required me to conduct detailed user testing and translate research findings into user-centric designs that addressed pain points and helped users donate without second-guessing. I created wireframes and mockups for stakeholder review and developed a modular design system in Figma to ensure consistency and accelerate the design-to-development workflow. I also collaborated with my team to implement the designs in code.

In less than a year of launching the new platform, NZF witnessed an increase of roughly 240% in online donations.

The new donation platform was 7.4x faster than the previous site, with steady month-over-month growth in donations. YOY stats showed donations more than doubled with only a slight rise in user traffic, indicating success in reducing donation checkout abandonments. The new platform was a highly performant web app using React, Tailwind CSS, Prismic CMS, and AWS Amplify for the back end.
